Painting as Care - On the decolonial work on memory

HFBK Hamburg
08.11.2023

Entangled with both history and the present, the legacy of colonialism requires critical reprocessing and debate. From a postcolonial perspective and in the midst of the solo exhibition And Still I Rise, the artist and HFBK-professor of painting Rajkamal Kahlon, Femi Johnson (Artist, director, producer and ASA-guest lecturer from Lagos at HFBK Hamburg) and Prof. Dr. María do Mar Castro Varela (Professor of Social Work and General Pedagogy at Alice Salomon Hochschule, Berlin) will negotiate critical strategies of artistic practice, theory and politics for dealing with precisely those violent images and narratives.

The event was moderated by Suy Lan Hopmann (Independent curator, Hamburg).
